How to Clean Your New Carbon Steel Wok

When you receive your new wok, it's important to clean it before you do anything else. Manufacturers apply factory oil to new woks to protect them from humidity during shipping. This prevents rust and ensures the wok arrives in pristine condition.

Follow the steps below to remove all residues:

1. Wash with hot, soapy water.
2. Scrub the inside and outside of wok with a brush (don't use metal wool).
3. Rinse the wok completely.
4. Dry wok with a clean, dry towel.
5. Place on a stovetop over medium-high heat to completely dry the wok and evaporate any leftover water.
6. Re-season as needed. Remove wooden handle before re-seasoning your new wok.
